Monday Recap

Yesterday was a busy day, at least a busy evening.
After dinner, it was time for bike rides for all. Akua seems to really enjoy running beside the bike. She also seems to enjoy any time she has alone with me. The only problem on the ride last night was when a couple of really large dogs started barking as we rode past. She hesitated a little, but then we were back on our way, and I swear she looked like she was smiling. We only added a little distance. I think that she has plenty of stamina, but I know from my own that it can be rough on the pads on their feet, so I try to limit the distance and give them some break between bike rides until we get their pads toughened up. Dash and Magick also got their bike rides, and enjoyed them.
After bike riding, I tried to get the grass mowed, but unfortunately the mower had a flat tire, so as soon as I realized that, had to quit the grass mowing. The basenjis think the grass is a little long first thing in the morning when there is still dew on the grass. They will have to wait another day or two until the tire get repaired.
Since I couldn't do my chore of getting the grass cut, Zi and I decided to take Akua to PetSmart for an outing. She almost fell asleep in the car on the way there. Once at PetSmart she was wide awake. She walked right in the door, like she was an old pro. She had no issues with the slippery floor. She and Zi looked at the fish. Gave her opinion on which treats smelled the best. She saw a couple of German Shepards. One was afraid of her, and another was a big puppy. She seems to like to interact with other dogs. She would sit, even without treats, and the distraction of being in the store.
I had forgotten to take any treats, so we got a small bag of treats, and then headed out front to do a short training session. We did some sits, tried to do a couple of stays, shake hands and high fives. I didn't try downs since we were on concrete, and her down isn't that secure. She was admired by several people as we were doing our work. All recognized her as a basenji. She even enjoyed the attention from 2 different children that politely asked if they could pet her.
After all that excitement, we headed home. She rides wonderfully in the car. Once home we took out her stitches from her spay surgery. No issues there. She laid down quietly let me snip them and pull them out.
Finally, to round out the evening, we all went for a walk.
After the walk everyone settled down pretty quickly with their respective boys for a good night's sleep.
